Our coffees are roasted weekly and fulfilled after roasting to ensure optimal freshness and flavour.  Cut-off for all orders is at 9am on Tuesday mornings.  Orders completed after this time will be shipped the following week.

The Kamwangi Factory (wet mill) is one out of three wet mills of the New Ngariama Cooperative Society in Kirinyaga in Central Kenya. Kainamui was the first factory under this society which was established in 1997. They have proven to be very consistent in quality over the last years, and have great systems for traceability and quality control. We have been buying coffee from the New Ngariama Farmers Cooperative since 2016.

They are Rainforest Alliance certified, and have established soaking pits for waste water treatment. Kamwangi collects cherries from about 1000 smallholders with an average of 0.4 hectares of coffees, about 250 trees each. Fermentation is done with Fresh River Water. The same water is recycled during the day through a recycling process enabling them to significantly reduce water consumption.

Each lot consists of coffees from hundreds of smallholders from the area surrounding the washing station (factory). The team at the factory sort the cherries before they go into production. The coffees are traditionally processed with dry fermentation, before being washed and graded in channels, and dried on raised beds. The farmers mainly grow SL28 and SL34, but as with almost all Kenyan cooperative coffees, there can be a mix of everything. Other common cultivars are K7, Ruiru 11 and now also Batian.

The farmers under the New Ngariama Cooperative in Kirinyaga are located on the slopes of Mount Kenya and together with the neighbouring region Nyeri it’s known for coffees with the most intense, complex, and flavour-dense cup profiles worldwide.
