One year ago, we launched our ICONS monthly subscription as a way of featuring industry luminaries and their philosophies on sourcing specialty coffees.  Though it has been a challenging year for us, we’ve been encouraged by all the feedback we’ve received from all of our subscribers on the people and coffees featured.

For our 13th and last ICONS box, we wanted to recognise all the home brewers around the world who have embarked on this year-long journey with us, tasting unique coffees and gaining new insight on how ICONS in our industry choose their coffees.  To celebrate, we are featuring a home brewer who was instrumental in launching ICONS: @alcheng88!

Alvin is a passionate home brewer, and for 10 years has been focused on finding the cleanest and most delicious coffees from around the world. He is an avid AeroPresser and has competed twice in the Hong Kong regionals. A close friend of team Cupping Room, Alvin truly practices our ethos to “Brew Like A Champ” through his constant experimentation on brewing devices and sharing his experiences on social media.  He’s comfortable brewing anywhere... at home, at work, in a plane, or simply behind our brew bar.

Alvin’s selections for us this month are truly representative of the year of amazing coffees that we’ve had.  He’s chosen one coffee from our very first ICONS: Adam and Rachel Overton of Gesha Village, and one coffee from our most recent ICON: Rigoberto Herrera of Café Granja La Esperanza.  According to Alvin, both are producers that truly represent Cupping Room customers’ favourite profiles: clean, floral, fragrant, and expressive of variety and terroir. We certainly agree.
